We at Peninsula Carpet Care are passionate about green cleaning, it’s kind of our thing. Why do we care so much? Because we want our clients (and workers) to have a healthy clean environment in which to live, and the fact of the matter is that not all cleaning detergents are as safe as you’d hope.

A lot of research (government agencies and independent) has gone in to ingredients that cause cancer, which is great. But cancer is not the only adverse side effect that can manifest from an over exposure to harmful chemicals or ingredients. Some of the potential dangers are: repertory issues (asthma), allergens, irritants, reproductive issues and skin burns. Granted some of these are extreme possibilities that are like not to happen thankfully. However cleaning products that contain allergens and irritants is far too common.

Unfortunately cleaning product manufacturers aren’t required to label or disclose all their ingredients. Even if they did it would require a great deal of knowledge to be able to understand what they are and how they interact with one another. Here are few things to look out for however: parabens (they can disrupt hormone function by mimicking oestrogen), formaldehyde (a known irritant to the eyes and nose), Ammonia (another known irritant, especially to those with respiratory problems), Sodium Hydroxide (can cause a burning sensation on the skin and in your throat).
